It seems like quite a bit of work is going into Torchlight II, especially given that 100 percent of all the assets are being produced from scratch for Runic Games’ upcoming PC role-playing game. In fact, the developers are touting that this sequel is roughly four times the size of the original Torchlight—and they have the numbers to back it up.
Runic Games president/designer Travis Baldree took to the company’s blog to talk about all the tweaks and adjustments that are going into monsters, different classes, and special effects for certain dungeons.
But more interesting of all is what the statistics introduced about the assets and elements in the original Torchlight. Roughly 15 different categories were broken down and put up against the sequel, showing how much additional content has been added in Torchlight II‘s development time.
As Travis notes, the different in scale between both games is pretty sizable:
In terms of scale, Torchlight II is close to 4x the scale of Torchlight 1 as far as assets go, and probably close to that as far as playtime. Ideally, the multiplayer that everyone has asked for will further increase the longevity of the game (we certainly hope so!) These are all new assets as well ( some monsters and weapons return from Torchlight, but they have all been recreated, or in the case of some individual weapons and shields, updated and repainted )
Fans will be quick to notice that despite all the extra content and development time, the price for Torchlight II has remained at a budget-friendly 20 bucks. Now, all they need is a firm release date.
