Update: Matt has confirmed with EGM that the March 11 release date applies to both PS4 and PC versions of TowerFall Ascension.
Original Story: TowerFall Ascension, a once Ouya-exclusive described as the 2D equivalent of Smash Bros., is coming to PlayStation 4 March 11, developer Matt Thorson announced today.
Thorson’s genre label for TowerFall is “4-player archery combat platformer.” In short, it’s a competitive multiplayer game in which four players throwdown in chaotic, arrow-shooting fights with one hit kills. Ascension, adds 50 new Versus arenas, bringing the count up to 120, new match customization options, new power-ups, and a Quest mode.
Honestly, I’ve been jonesing to play TowerFall for a while now, and I’ve avoided purchasing it on Ouya in order for the PS4 release to be my first experience. I do question the wisdom, however, of launching a game that starts with a “T” and has the word “Fall” in its name on the same day as Titanfall. Intentional? I don’t think anyone is going to accidentally confuse the two, resulting in a boom of TowerFall purchases. But hey, make it the day’s theme. Make March 11 a day about buying games that start with the letter “T” and end with the word “Fall.”
As for the PC release of TowerFall Ascension, we’ve reached out to Mr. Thorson to see if that will drop on the same day and will update the story accordingly if we hear anything.
