TowerFall: Dark World, an expansion for 2014’s fantastic 2D side-scroller archery-based brawler TowerFall: Ascension, will launch on PS4 next week, creator Matt Thorson announced today on the PlayStation Blog.
“What started as a single new level set with a new archer ballooned into 4 level sets, 10 archers, procedurally generated levels, a new co-op mode, boss battles, new powerups, and more,” Thorson wrote in his post. “The result is DLC that pushes every aspect of the game further in surprising and meaningful ways. No matter what you loved about TowerFall Ascension, we want to give you more in Dark World.”
These new features include “Trigger Arrows,” which Thorson cites as his favorite new addition. Trigger arrows can be shot into walls or ceilings and, as the name suggests, triggered remotely to explode and take out enemies and nemesis archers in a near-miss or as a nasty surprise down the line.
The aforementioned new co-op mode allows up to four players (double Ascension’s co-op player count) to brave enemy waves and reach a “unique boss battle.”
TowerFall: Dark World launches on PS4 May 12. Thorson didn’t provide a price, but given how the game itself is $15.99, I don’t imagine it’ll wander too far beyond $5.
