Twitch on the Look Out for Non-Gaming Streams Coming out of PS4 Playroom

Posted on November 25, 2013 AT 01:28pm

Non-gaming streams by people using the PS4’s Playroom feature have caused videogame streaming service Twitch to aggressively moderate their new source of content and users.

Kotaku reports the presence of off-topic and, in one example, crass content being streamed from the PS4 Playroom. The example cited by Kotaku involved a livestream of a husband and wife drinking themselves silly, the wife later appearing nude. In response, Twitch has stepped up moderation in accordance with their Terms of Service.

“FYI: We continue to moderate according to our Terms of Service. Non-gaming content is not allowed,” reads the start of a series of tweets from Twitch. “Non-gaming content (c): If using PS4 Playroom, the content must be about games or gaming and within our ToS. Thanks for understanding.”

In a separate tweet, Twitch reiterates that discussion of gaming is considered gaming content, and illustrates One More Game on Twitch as an an example of this.

As a Redditor points out, however, Twitch’s Terms of Service are not made immediately apparent to Playroom users, and many people might not realize the restrictions or requirements about gaming-related material Twitch calls for.
