Twitch Plays Pokémon beats Crystal, countdown to Emerald begins

After being handed a deadline to beat Pokémon Crystal, Twitch Plays Pokémon viewers have managed to finally down Red and complete the game.

Following the completion of Pokémon Red a few weeks ago the stream moved onto Pokémon Crystal, but struggled with some of the game’s many puzzles. Over the weekend the stream’s host issues a challenge to viewers: If the stream failed to beat Red, the final trainer in the game, by March 21 there would be no Pokémon Emerald stream.

The Twitch Plays Pokémon team rose to that challenge and defeated him, bringing an end to the stream. Unlike the normal version of Pokémon Crystal, the host had edited Red’s final team to contain the Pokémon that TPP used to defeat the Elite Four in Pokémon Red—Zapdos, Omastar, Pidgeot, Venomoth, Lapras, and Nidoking.

A countdown timer has since appeared on the stream stating that Pokémon Emerald will begin on March 21.
