THE BUZZ: EA has revealed that more than two million players signed up to beta test BioWare’s upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
“The game itself has a huge pre-existing fan base. We had about 2.4 million people register for the Star Wars fan site, over 2 million of which volunteered to do testing for free,” said EA CFO Eric Brown. During the thanksgiving weekend test a massive 725,000 unique users logged in. ”In terms of peak concurrent users, we had just over a quarter of a million people playing the game simultaneously,” he added.
EGM’s TAKE: It appears that BioWare have a hit on their hands before the game has even launched, but it’s going to be a hard Christmas for the development team, to keep on top of the launch.
