A few new NES games are opening up for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in March.
As Nintendo revealed in a brief announcement video, an update on Wednesday, March 13th will add both Kid Icarus and StarTropics to the Nintendo Switch. Both these games will be playable for anyone who’s subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
The first, Kid Icarus, stars Pit, who most Nintendo fans probably know chiefly from his appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series. You’ll play as young angel Pit as he flies through the Underworld, Overworld, and Skyworld, battling against the evil Medusa’s forces to free the his goddess, Palutena. In StarTropics, you’ll play as yo-yo-wielding hero Mike Jones as he searches for his archaeologist uncle across isles in the South Seas.
Notably, StarTropics is one of the rare early Nintendo NES games made with a Western audience in mind. Originally, the game was released only in North America and Europe. As such, if you have your console set to a different region, you’ll get some different games. If you happen to be playing on a Japanese-set Nintendo Switch, you’ll get Kid Icarus, but you’ll also get Yie Ar Kung-Fu and Fire Emblem instead of StarTropics.
Don’t forget to check out the other games that have arrived on the Nintendo Switch Online app since launch, including Zelda II: The Adventures of Link, Kirby’s Adventure, and Super Mario Bros. 2.
