U.K. Retailer GAME Not Stocking Mass Effect 3 or Any EA Games After SSX

THE BUZZ: An internal memo to employees at U.K. retailer GAME has revealed that the company will not be stocking any EA games after the release of SSX, this includes Mass Effect 3.

This includes all GAME and Gamestation Stores. An internal memo, secured by Eurogamer, reveals that FIFA Street, Tiger Woods 13 and Sims 3: Showtime will also not be stocked by the company. Individual stores have also confirmed that no EA games will be stocked after the release of SSX this Friday.

The memo itself details how employees should break the news to customers who have pre-ordered. If you have a pre-order for one of these titles your deposit will be refunded with store credit and not cash.

EA has updated its Mass Effect 3 pre-order page, removing GAME from the list of N7 Collector’s Edition retailers. Those that remain are Amazon, Play, Zavvi and ShopTo. The text reads:

“For customers who have pre-ordered the N7 Collector’s Edition please re-order your copies through these retailers.”

“For further information regarding the Mass Effect 3 Standard Edition with the N7 Warfare Gear in-game weapons pack, please check this page later today.”

“If you have placed a deposit for a pre-order or are uncertain that your existing pre-order will be guaranteed, please contact your local retailer.”

“Your local retailer is doing everything possible to make this process as smooth as possible to ensure you get your copy on launch day.”

EGM’s TAKE: This is really bad news for an already struggling GAME Group, Inc.. Not only is it going to miss out on the massive sales opportunities for Mass Effect 3, but also all other EA titles. For a company already on unstable financial footing this could be devastating. It appears that EA is holding firm and not giving GAME better terms due to its financial situation, in an apparen. The loss of GAME and Gamestation stores would leave a massive hole on U.K. high streets.

Does this signal the end of video game retail? Leave your thoughts below.
