Ubisoft’s wrapped up their pre-E3 press conference by unveiling Tom Clancy’s The Division, an open-world online RPG.
The Division marks Ubisoft’s first full foray into next-gen gaming—that is to say, the title is coming out on Xbox One and PS4 (and presumably PC)—not current-gen consoles. The title is the latest in an ever-growing trend toward America-in-ruin games, set in the near future after a series of escalating catastrophes decimates North America.
Not unlike Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, The Division sees players scavenging for survival needs in the hauntingly empty of America.
As far as gameplay goes, The Division mixes third-person shooting and cover-based firefights with RPG elements.
No release date was provided. The title is being developed by Ubisoft Massive (formerly Massive Entertainment), who worked on the co-op multiplayer components of Far Cry 3 (as well as the Desmond segments in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations).
