Assassin‘s Creed publisher Ubisoft has filed a complaint against U.S. based author John Beiswenger, in order to finally settle a dispute between the two parties. The author believes that the Assassin’s Creed franchise stole ideas from his novel, Link.
Ubisoft has branded his claims “entirely meritless.” Beiswenger recently backed away from his claim, however he withheld the right to pursue it again if he so wished. The complaint filed by Ubisoft is an attempt to have the copyright accusations completely disregarded.
“The plaintiff in the case alleging copyright infringement by Ubisoft has dropped his claim without settlement,” the publisher said in a statement. “Ubisoft believes this suit was frivolous and without merit, and is seeking a ruling to prevent future related claims.”
“We are proud of our creative teams and will continue to vigorously defend the intellectual property they develop,” it added.
It’s about time that Ubisoft stood up for itself, this author has been throwing accusations about all over the place and so far they’ve took it – despite the case looking slightly shaky. Hopefully this will finally end the dispute.
