Ubisoft’s Child of Light Inspired by Classic JRPGs, Downloadable This Winter

Posted on August 19, 2013 AT 11:12am

Child of Light, the smaller-scale project being developed by Far Cry 3 director Patrick Plourde, is a JRPG-inspired, side-scrolling fantasy title, Plourde revealed during GDC Europe.

The title is being developed using the Ubi Art Framework, the same engine that powers Rayman Origins. The fairy tale-inspired RPG will feature side-scrolling gameplay and turn-based battles, and will be a coming-of-age tale (a Bildungsroman, for those of you keen on literary terminology) for the young female protagonist.

Plourde sited Square classics such as Final Fantasy VI as one his inspirations, and described Child of Light as a combination of that and Limbo.

Child of Light will be released as a downloadable digital title this winter. Typical of Ubisoft games, expect it to be available on most platforms that support digital distribution (read: all of them, at this point, really). It will not, however, be released on mobile titles.
