Borderlands 2 is set to get some new colorblind options in an upcoming update, developer Gearbox Software has announced.
When enabled via the options menu, these new options will display the name of the color of the item on its stats card, programmer Jeffrey Broome explained. All items, including those dropped in the world, found in chests or vending machines, and items in the player inventory, will display this line of text when colorblind mode is enabled.
Players will be able to select from Deuteranopia, Protanopia, or Tritanopia, depending on the type of color vision deficiency they suffer from. “If you aren’t sure which type of color vision deficiency you have, you can just try them out one by one until you find the one that works best for you,” Broome wrote.
Broome added that the Protanopia option will contain a small bug at launch, which will cause red and green to look very similar. “This bug was detected too late to change it in the update so it will have to be fixed in a future update (it can’t be “hot fixed”). For now, people with protanomaly or protanopia should just use the “deuteranopia” colorblind setting instead.”
