As the summer continues to rage on, Pokémon Go players are anticipating the inevitable release of the legendary Pokémon. With the latest gym rework now available to the masses, the new Raid system seems like the perfect means to introduce the epic creatures, and the upcoming Pokémon Go Fest event may be their debut site.
Held at the Grant Park in Chicago on July 22nd, the event may treat attendees to more than just a photo op with a guy in a Pikachu costume. According to the Chicago Tribune’s reporting after acquiring a copy of the event’s map submitted to the Chicago Park District, the event will feature an “ultimate gym” for trainers to interact with during the event.
The ultimate gym will stand in one corner of the field as the main stage, with each team holding their own gym and lounge area in the other corners. There are no additional details on what the ultimate gym will possess, but it’s easy to speculate a new level 5 Raid will appear containing a legendary Pokémon. When Pokémon Go was first announced, the reveal trailer showed masses of trainers in one location taking on a Mewtwo, which may prove to be a model for this event.
Up to 20,000 attendants are expected at the Fest, which is impressive considering the tickets sold out within 30 minutes. Niantic has been known to drop surprises on players, such as the holiday Pikachu. Here’s hoping if Mewtwo is available for trainers to capture at the event it will roll out globally not long after.
