Microsoft’s updated terms of use (TOU) require users to consent to keeping their accounts secure and to allowing Microsoft to share some amount of personal data with their partners.

The updated TOU was revealed in a post on Xbox Wire, which details how the company’s efforts are geared to maintaining security over the network. To that end, the terms “now asks all users to commit to keeping their contact information up to date.”

“Protecting your account from unauthorized access and fraud is a top priority for us,” Microsoft states in the post. “It helps keep Xbox Live safer and more secure for everyone.

“If you choose to link this account with your Xbox Live account, we confirm key data points across the accounts by sharing data such as your name, address, email address, and date of birth with the partner. In this TOU update, customers agree to allow Microsoft to share this information in this manner.”

And while Xbox’s functional “tl;dr” makes mention only of the above information, the actual terms of use (for the current agreement) mentions requiring permission to do a whole host of things with users leaderboards, live-hosted gameplay, achievements, gamer profile information, game scores, play sessions, presence on Xbox Live, and time spent with a particular game.
