Online passes have become more frequent in game releases over the last year to the point where most games now require a code to access multiplayer content, forcing purchasers of a used copy to buy a code.
It appears that Rage will be taking this one step farther by locking some doors in the single-player game that will only open if you purchased a new copy of the game. On top of this id Software will not be making a code purchasable for used copies of the game, basically locking this content off to them completely.
Creative Director, Tim Willits said;
“Most people will never even see it. I can tell you, some people will buy Rage, download [the new-purchase content], and still never set foot in those things. They just won’t. I think that’s fair. It’s cool. It’s outside the main path. We’re not detracting from anything. But I know some consumers, when you can’t avoid it, then you get a little touchy subject.”
