Valiant Hearts: The Great War dev diary explores the game’s art-based origins

Posted on May 23, 2014 AT 10:15am

The first developer diary for Ubisoft’s upcoming World War 1 2D platforming adventure game Valiant Hearts: The Great War delves into the project’s origins.

As described in the video, the earliest concepts of what would become Valiant Hearts: The Great War were born from sketches and designs art director Paul Tumelaire was working on in the UbiArt Framework. From there, as he recounts, “the atmosphere just took shape.” It didn’t take long for others at Ubisoft to be attracted to the idea of telling a World War I story—an era underrepresented in videogames—using Tumelaire’s art style.

Valiant Hearts launches on Windows PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3 as a $14.99 digital download on June 25.
