Valve Job Listing Reinvigorates Steam Box Rumors

THE BUZZ: A new Valve job advertisement has added some weight to recent rumors regarding the Steam Box.

Valve is currently looking for an electronics engineer to help it develop hardware to “enhance” gameplay experiences.

“Join our highly motivated team that’s doing hardware design, prototyping, testing, and production across a wide range of platforms,” the advert reads. ”We’re not talking about me-too mice and gamepads here – help us invent whole new gaming experiences.”

The successful applicant will have to, ”work with the hardware team to conceive, design, evaluate, and produce new types of input, output, and platform hardware.”

EGM’s TAKE: Valve has denied the existence of a Steam Box previously, however, if we’ve learned anything from gaming, it’s that developers don’t always tell you what they are working on. This could be linked to the TV technology that they were supposed to be working on, that will allow Steam to run on any size monitor. We’re not really sure if Steam could survive in a console market, things would have to change in its systems if Valve made that jump, and it may not want to take that risk.
