Valve will demonstrate a prototype VR headset during their Steam Dev Days conference in January, during a session called “What VR Could, Should, and Almost Certainly Will Be within Two Years.”

The prototype headset will be shown by Michael Abrash, a Valve R&D specialist working on the device.

“This type of hardware is almost certainly going to appear in short order, and the time to start developing for it is now,” reads the session description “This talk will discuss what the hardware is like, and the kinds of experiences it makes possible. A few attendees will be randomly selected to try out the prototype following the talk.”

Valve’s Steam Dev Days conference kicks off January 15, 2014 in Seattle and lasts through January 16. SteamOS, Steam Machines, and the Steam Controller will also be on hand for for developers to “test-drive and provide feedback” on.
