Following the game’s most recent update, Fortnite Battle Royale players on Nintendo Switch noticed that video capture was no longer available.

Nothing was mentioned in the original patch notes, but Epic Games has since confirmed that the feature was removed to improve performance.

“You may have noticed we’ve disabled the Video Capture feature on Nintendo Switch as of the v5.40.2 client update,” the developer wrote on Reddit. “This was done for performance and stability reasons as we’ve been seeing a high rate of Out of Memory related crashes. Disabling this feature saves a significant amount of RAM while also having a positive effect on overall performance across the board.”

Epic Games added that it may reintroduce the feature as an option in the future for players who don’t mind taking the performance hit.

This week’s Fortnite update introduced the suppressed assault rifle and removed the drum gun.
