Video Showcasing a Fan-Created, In-Progress Pokémon 3D Project

What would Pokémon be like if the game was a crazy mix of 2D sprites and 3D environments? Maybe a little something like this fan project, Pokémon 3D.
Developer Nillzz—that’s a person, not a studio—is still very early in working on this project; the version we see in the video here is 0.15.
“Pokémon3D is a recreation of the old Pokémon games Gold/Silver by Nintendo/GameFreak (but, of course this game has nothing to do with them
,” says Nillzz’s Pokémon 3D page hosted on Indie DB. “You’re the hero of the game, and as usual, you want to be the best Pokémon trainer of all time. So let’s go, visit some grass and catch, battle and defeat wild Pokémon, explore towns and routes in 3D, collect items and Pokémon, play with a friend in LAN co-op and much more. The game is currently under development and features are added frequently.”
So, any bets as to if—or maybe I should say when—Nintendo brings down the hammer on this? I dig fun fan projects such along these lines, but I’m not sure I’d want to be the one working on something based on one of Nintendo’s most profitable and important franchises.
Either way, good luck in your efforts Nillzz!
