Vigil Games Wanted to Add Co-Op to Darksiders

Darksiders II lead designer Haydn Dalton has revealed that the team wanted to add co-op to the original Darksiders, but were unable to due to a lack of console experience.

Originally the team wanted to add four-player co-op to the game, which would have been amazing. Sadly, it just wasn’t possible at this time, according to Dalton. “Realistically…we didn’t have much console experience and it was a whole new genre for us. So instead we went down the less risky route and focused on a single one of them,” he told Incgamers.

When asked if the team still wanted to add co-op to the series, he replied, “Absolutely. I don’t think there’s anyone here that likes Darksiders and doesn’t like the idea of causing destruction with three buddies.”

Dalton went on to explain the major issues with adding co-op, “The puzzles would have to change quite a lot, because we design them with a single person’s perspective in mind. Co-op puzzles would be a whole new challenge for us, and how the game would work if someone decided that they wanted to play by themselves.”

Finally he made it very clear that Darksiders II will remain a single-player game as it is still too risky to add co-op.
