Virtual Toy Box Disney Infinity Officially Announced
Posted on January 15, 2013 AT 01:47pm

In Disney Infinity, all-stars from Disney and Pixar franchises come together in a no-rules sandbox game augmented by physical, real world toys.
The ambitious, cross-platform game was officially announced today during a press event held in Hollywood. It is largely inspired by Toy Story 3: The Game’s Toy Box mode, and allows each property’s individual”Play Set,” their respective world, to interact and play in one massive sandbox arena across PC, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Wii U (and eventually tablets and mobile devices). The game allows for two-player split-screen co-op play and online multiplayer for up to four.
In the same vein as Skylanders, actual figurines can be purchased to unlock content (additional characters, items, buildings for Play Sets, et cetera) for the game. Twenty (20) of these figurines will be available at launch. Characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles, and Monsters University will be the first available.
While no release date was given, the official website features a countdown that ends June 1 below the words “Infinity Begins In.”
