Visceral Explains Reasons for Dead Space 3 Console Port PC Version

The news that the PC version of Dead Space 3 would be a console port has angered many fans, but Steve Papoutsis, executive producer at Visceral Games, is baffled by the reaction.

“It’s confusing to me that this question even comes up,” Papoutsis told ShackNews when asked why the PC version wouldn’t get full customization. “It’s by no means any less important to us; it gets a lot of attention. The PC is a very different platform. As developers, you want to deliver an experience that’s as similar as possible on different platforms.”

“At our studio, we’ve always made console games. The biggest thing is we want to make sure the quality of the experience is consistent across all platforms so we don’t have one userbase saying it’s better on their system (…) It’s a confusing question and I hope my answer brings a little bit of light to it. We seem a little bit discredited for the amount of effort that goes into it, quite honestly.”

“We want it to be great on all systems, that’s our approach.”

What I take out of this is that Visceral gimped the PC version to prevent it from outshining the console versions–seems like a case of cutting off your nose to spite your face to me. Of course you have to take into account that Visceral isn’t a PC developer so it’s kind of understandable why they opted for a straight port. Fans should probably be thankful for a PC version actually existing.
