Last night a new live action trailer for Halo 4 aired during the France vs. England soccer game. Sadly England was only able to tie the game, but luckily this trailer managed to soften the blow—slightly.

The trailer shows the UNSC Infinity—a re-purposed battleship now tasked with exploring the galaxy—which will be the setting for the upcoming live-action series Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. The series is set to air on Halo: Waypoint in the weeks leading up to the game’s release. The goal of Forward Unto Dawn is to “make Halo accessible for people who haven’t played the games,” according to 343 Industries franchise business management director, Matt McCloskey.

If Microsoft and 343 can pull off a whole series to the scale of this trailer then this will definitely be worth watching. The lack of Master Chief is a little disappointing, but it’s about time that a new hero took the spotlight—Chief can’t be around forever. I’m hoping that this series is a precursor to the fabled Halo feature film that keeps getting thrown around. If this series can find success then there’s no way that film studios can ignore the potential.

According to Microsoft, “The stunning live-action trailer gives a tantalizing glimpse into the Halo 4 storyline and shows the Master Chief on the planet Requiem, about to face an unknown and terrifying threat that sits at the heart of the Halo 4 campaign.”
