Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s new Super Smash Bros. game on the Nintendo Switch will be appearing at E3 2018, and it’s getting its very own invitational tournament.

Nintendo will hand-pick a group of players to compete in the tournament, which will run sometime during this year’s E3. That means that we can expect to a glimpse of the new Super Smash Bros. gameplay at the conference, presumably sometime between June 12th and June 14th.

While we know that this tournament is happening, we’re still missing a few crucial details about the game itself. Nintendo revealed the new Smash game earlier in March, during a Nintendo Direct, and revealed that it will star the Inklings from Splatoon as playable characters. What wasn’t clear from the teaser, however, was whether this is an entirely new Smash game, or simply an enhanced port of the Super Smash Bros. game that currently exists on the Wii U.

However, it seems that Nintendo is going all-in on promoting Splatoon. In addition to the appearance of the Inklings in the Smash teaser (and, presumably, in this tournament), the Splatoon 2 World Championship will take place from June 11th to June 12th at E3 2018. In order to enter this tournament, teams must submit their registration to Nintendo before April 21st, then compete in qualifier matches in order to determine the best eight teams. Those teams will then compete further in the Finals Period on April 28th.

Full details and registration information for the Splatoon 2 World Championship can be found on Nintendo’s E3 page here.
