THE BUZZ: Business service company Riskmonster and RJC Research recently conducted a survey among Japanese people aged 20 to 64, asking which companies they’d most want a prospective future spouse to be working for.
The #1 response for female students? Nintendo. The house of Mario and Pikachu was then followed up by Sony at #2, Toyota Motors and Sharp tied at #3, and Toshiba at #5.
Unfortunately, the responses from male students weren’t nearly as interesting. At the top of the list for them was NTT Docomo (a leading cell phone provider in Japan) tied at #1 with Mizuho Bank, followed by Sony, Mitsui Sumitomo Banking, NTT Japan, and UNIQLO (a clothing retailer that might feel like what you’d get if Old Navy and the Gap consolidated into one store) all tied for #3.
EGM’s TAKE: Female Japanese students want guys who make games, cars, and cool electronics. Male Japanese students want girls in banking or phone-related positions. No wonder the birthrate in Japan is so low now—Japanese guys have no excitement when it comes to finding a wife.
