Wii U Miiverse Won’t Use Twitter Or Facebook, Sounds Like A Good Call

Nintendo’s extremely cautious steps into social networking for the Wii U won’t include Twitter or Facebook, and considering the steps they’re taking to censor offensive content, that actually sounds like the right call to make.

Nintendo of Europe’s Laurent Fischer elaborated on Nintendo’s stance to GamesIndustry, stating that the company’s plan is spread the Miiverse to other devices, not having multiple social networks spread within their own network:

“What we have discussed so far… I think it is the other way around, from any devices in the future you will be able to access the Miiverse, from mobile phone or laptop,” said Nintendo of Europe’s Laurent Fischer. “You can check what’s going on and even participate.”

Fischer also stated that Nintendo’s goal isn’t to offer a service that’s already available on other devices, although that likely ignores the fact that the Wii and Nintendo 3DS already tried it with Netflix—something that’s better implemented on a variety of other systems, tablets, and computers.

However, since Nintendo anticipates a waiting time of 30 minutes for Miiverse content to get through their filtering system, excluding Facebook and Twitter integration is probably better in the long run. Adding both those services in would likely double or triple the waiting period.
