Will Call of Duty Elite’s Servers Withstand the Holiday Weekend?

THE BUZZ: Though its launch started off a bit rocky, Activision has been hard at work trying to get everything up to snuff for their new social networking and stat-tracking service Call of Duty Elite. With the upcoming holiday weekend, and so many gamers sitting at home getting in some quality time with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the publisher has commented on where they’re at with the service and how they expect it to hold up.

“We are where we should have been at launch,” vice president of production at Activision Daniel Suarez said today in an interview with VentureBeat. “It should be an enjoyable holiday weekend for people.”

While not all of the aspects of Call of Duty Elite are up and running yet, this week will see the launch of Friday Night Fights, part of the original programming being created for the service. Produced by Ridley and Tony Scott, the first episode of FNF will see a Call of Duty competition between the Army and Navy.

Finally, Suarez also stated that Activision will soon be giving more information on the first batch of DLC that subscribers to Call of Duty Elite will be getting for free as part of the deal.

EGM’s TAKE: How many of you will be spending the holiday weekend (for those of you who get a holiday weekend) playing some Modern Warfare 3? Are you hopefully that the Call of Duty Elite servers will hold up during the chaos of the next few days?
