Fans who were hoping to be playing CCP’s World of Darkness within the next year are set to be disappointed as the developer has confirmed that the game is still years away from seeing the light of day.
In a recent interview with Penny Arcade, executive producer Chris McDonough said that the title is still in pre-production and that fans shouldn’t expect to see it for a few years yet. The game currently has a 70-person team working on it, according to McDonough.
“What we’re doing is building a lot of tools, and we’re trying to do it in a smart way… we have to be able to use the tools to make up the ground for the number of guys we have,” McDonough said. “Now, we’ll ramp the team up when it comes time to go into actual production but, for sure, we’re making phenomenal progress.”
“We’re making sure this is a next-generation MMO. It’s very focused on movement and motion and capturing what it’s like to be a vampire,” he added. “People ask about our high level designs for World of Darkness, and we’ve called this a vampire simulator. What’s it like to be a vampire. Not a superhero, but a super-powered individual. The way the characters move around the city feels very vampiric.”
