World of Warcraft has shed 1.3 million subscribers during the first quarter of 2013, Activision has announced during today’s earnings call.
The losses were apparently mainly in Eastern territories where a large portion of the game’s player base is located, according to the publisher. Subscription numbers currently sit at 8.3 million, down from 9.6 million, with Activision stating that World of Warcraft still ”remains the #1 subscription-based MMORPG in the world.”
Activision boss Bobby Kotick said that the declines ”raise concerns” and that the company expects next year’s numbers to be even lower. Of course 8.3 million isn’t exactly a bad number to be sitting at after all these years.
