World of Warcraft still has a large amount of subscribers, but the numbers keep dropping

As part of their earnings report today, Activision gave a wide array of information on their various titles, and one point stood out about World of Warcraft.

The current subscriber base stands at 11.1 million. Now, let’s be fair – that’s still a huge number.

However, that comes with two notes. That number is after the game launched in China. Even with the different way Chinese players pay for their World of Warcraft sessions, they’re still counted as a subscriber after an hour of play a month.

Also, this is the second quarter now this year that WoW has lost subscribers, this time at a number around 300,000. In the previous quarter, the game lost 600,000 subscribers, meaning the loss so far for this year has almost hit 1 million.
