World of Warcraft‘s subscriber numbers have held steady for a third quarter running, Activision Blizzard has announced.

After reporting massive losses last year, World of Warcraft has actually seen a slight increase in its subscriber base to 7.8 million—200,000 more than what was reported in November 2013. Blizzard boss Mike Morhaime put the increase down to the excitement that Blizzon generated, the announcement of a new expansion, and new promotions designed to get previous subscribers to return.

“In terms of World of Warcraft, we think that the ongoing engagement in the game really is just dependent on ongoing content, and we’re continuing to invest in growing the World of Warcraft development team and creating new content,” he said.

“And looking towards getting into beta on Warlords of Draenor, we think there are a lot of great features that will drive engagement with the game and hopefully bring players back to the game.”
