World of Warcraft Warlords of Draenor alpha testing begins

Blizzard has announced that its next expansion for World of Warcraft, Warlords of Draenor, has now officially entered alpha testing.

Just in time for the launch of a certain other major MMO (The Elder Scrolls Online) the developer released a set of alpha patch notes for the expansion. The patch notes go over new perks and talents, Garrisons, the stat squish, various quality of life improvements, and class balance changes. You can check the lengthy list out here.

“We’ve been hard at work on World of Warcraft®: Warlords of Draenor™, and today we’ve entered the Alpha phase of our expansion testing,” the developer wrote on the Battle.net blog. “As part of this, we’ll begin using public servers to host the data, which means you may begin seeing some datamined information show up in the usual places.”

Blizzard did warn that not all of the expansion’s features would be available during the alpha phase, such as Garrisons. The developer also revealed that it would be moving to a new file system with the release of Warlords called CASC (Content Addressable Storage Container). This new system will help prevent file corruption, increase game performance, speed up patching, and more. Blizzard plans to update all WoW clients to this new system before the expansion launches.

Players who are interested in participating in the expansion’s upcoming beta test simply have to select World of Warcraft in their beta profile settings on their Battle.net account.
