WWDC: Game Center Heading From iOS To Mac Desktops and Laptops

Along with new updates to their MacBook line, Apple is ramping up support of Game Center, the iPhone and iPad-centric multiplayer social network that powers their gaming content. As revealed at WWDC today in San Francisco, the Game Center will be pushed to Mac laptops and desktops, fully integrating with the iOS version.

As demonstrated by Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior VP of software engineering, the new connectivity with Game Center will allow you to play multiplayer games against anyone with a Mac device. That means desktops can play against iPads, iPhones can play against MacBook Airs, and everything inbetween.

It’s all part of Mac OS X 10.8, better known as “Mountain Lion,” which also includes a whole host of features for various applications and services. Game Center’s functionality in particular was streamed via Apple’s AirPlay service, which can also be used to stream video, music, and several other media types.
