Xbox 360 Update Begins Transition from Microsoft Points to Local Currency

Posted on August 26, 2013 AT 10:39am

The transition from Microsoft Points to local currency kicks off today on Xbox 360s in North America, with a required update that’s now live.

Microsoft Points cards are still available at retailers, and can still be redeemed, but starting later this year Microsoft will be swapping those out for Xbox Gift Cards.

While the store includes prices and taxes, initial purchases won’t be taxed. Microsoft did state that local sales tax will be charged in the future.
