Anyone experiencing issues with their Xbox 360 when launching games: It’s not your ‘Box, it’s problems with the Live service, according Microsoft’s Xbox Live Status page.
“It’s come to our attention that some of you are seeing a black screen when attempting to launch games and applications,” reads the status update from earlier today. “Hang in there, Xbox members, we’re on it! Thanks for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. We’ll update you again as soon as we have more information.”
The rest of Xbox Live’s various services, including music and video streaming and access to the various stores, are unaffected by this issue.
One solution—supposing that you aren’t trying to play anything that requires Internet connectivity (i.e. multiplayer stuff), perhaps, would be to try launching games with your system disconnected from the Internet. This is not a Microsoft recommendation, however—just me playing at Obvious Ideas Worth Trying.
