Xbox Live Helps Man During Home Invasion

THE BUZZ: Though online gaming often seems to be filled with nothing but people who want to berate you and your skills, sometimes you’ll also find a good samaritan or two.
Early Tuesday morning, a man living on the North Side of Pittsburgh reported that the heard the back door to his home being kicked in—followed by two men wearing masks barging in. The intruders pistol-whipped the home owner, and then went upstairs. While they left an 11-year-old girl who was sleeping alone, they came across a woman who was trying to call for help. The intruders threatened her with a gun, stole cash, and then left.
When the home robbery had first started taking place, the man just happened to be online playing an undisclosed game via Xbox Live. When things started to go down, he told the Xbox Live member he was playing against what was happening, and asked them to call 911. They did, and the police were able to quickly get to the scene thanks to that call.
As of now, Pittsburgh police as still searching for the two intruders.
EGM’s TAKE: My first guess is that the person the man was playing against was a friend, and thus explains why they were able to tell the police where to send help. However, I would like to believe it was a total stranger, and that that stranger did the right thing in order to help a fellow gamer.
