Xbox Live Viewers Think Mitt Romney Beat Barack Obama In First Debate

Posted on October 6, 2012 AT 06:00am

President Barack Obama didn’t impress many Xbox Live users watching Wednesday night’s presidential foreign policy debate. According to polls conducted by Microsoft, most viewers gave the win to Mitt Romney.

Microsoft gave Game Informer some data on the event, citing the Republican candidate as the clear winner:

  • Romney was indeed a winner of Wednesday night’s debate with the Xbox Live audience, despite what some of the raw, real-time numbers might have shown. We asked 10 questions during the debate to gauge who won exchanges or segments, and we found that “undecideds” broke for Romney while Obama consistently lost support from his base.
  • While we don’t release specific numbers for Xbox Live events, participation was strong and amazingly consistent throughout the entirety of the debate. We can tell you that we’ve seen approximately 10,000 users responding to the daily polls, and participation in this event far exceeded this number.

According to the polls that Microsoft was running during the debate, Romney’s support increased with 9 out 10 viewers, while Obama’s baseline support dropped with 8 out of 10 viewers.

Surprising results, or par for the course. And do those results say something about the candidates, or does it say something about the Xbox Live viewership that tuned in and responded to the interactive polls?
