Despite being in development for more than four years, the Microsoft exclusive title Scalebound has officially been cancelled.
Rumors of the game’s cancellation began early on January 9th as sources leaked the news to various gaming outlets. Not long after, Microsoft released a statement confirming that the rumors were true and Scalebound would cease development.
“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”
The publisher was quick to remind gamers of its remaining games line-up for 2017, but it is still unconfirmed why Scalebound was cancelled. According to a report by Eurogamer, the relationship between publisher Microsoft and developer Platinum Games had “dramatically soured” thanks to development snags and missed deadlines.
It is unclear if the game could still be revived under a new publisher, but for the time being, work on Scalebound is officially concluded, and reportedly has been since the end of 2016.
