Microsoft’s previously announced third-party headset adapter will also be required for next-gen third-party headsets, not just Xbox 360 ones, and is set to release in 2014.

Turtle Beach has announced that its two new next-gen headsets, the XO Four and XO Seven, won’t release until 2014 due to the lack of an adapter. “Turtle Beach expects to launch the XO FOUR and XO SEVEN headsets for the Xbox One console in the first quarter of 2014,” the company said. “The Xbox One Headset Adapter, being built by Microsoft and provided to Turtle Beach for inclusion with new gaming headsets, will not be available until early 2014.”

The company told CVG that the Xbox One headset adapters are “for inclusion with new gaming headsets,” not just for backwards compatibility. Turtle Beach corporate communications rep David Lowey also confirmed that Microsoft’s adapter will be required for the new headsets and is included with each product.
