Xbox One Set for a 2014 Launch in Japan

Posted on September 17, 2013 AT 11:20pm

Microsoft Studios Corporate VP Phil Spencer has confirmed that the Xbox One will release in Japan next year, but no solid date or price was offered.

Microsoft’s next-gen hardware will be available from November 22, 2013 in the U.S., Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the U.K., Mexico, New Zealand and Spain. Other “tier 2″ territories, such as Japan, will have to wait until 2014 to get their hands on the console.

Spencer added that Microsoft is planning to release several Japanese-developed Xbox One exclusives. “Yes. Some time ago, [Xbox Japan general manager Takashi] Sensui and I met with a few Japanese developers to discuss Xbox One development. As a matter of fact, we are thinking of developing a few exclusive titles in cooperation with Japanese developers. I believe those titles will be announced closer to (the Japanese) launch,” he told Famitsu.

This news follows Sony’s announcement during the PlayStation Japan press conference last week that the PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan on February 22, 2014 for 39,980 Yen or 43,980 Yen with the PlayStation 4 camera. Consumers who purchase the console at launch will get Knack for free.
