Larry Hyrb, aka Major Nelson, announced today that Xbox is rolling out Arena on Xbox Live for Killer Instinct in its latest update.
Arena will allow players to not only sign up for Killer Instinct tournaments directly from their Xbox dashboard but also create their own tournaments through the Xbox app. And if you register for a tournament, you will automatically receive a notification through your console or the Xbox app letting you know when it’s time to check in.
Right now, Killer Instinct and World of Tanks are the only games compatible with Arena (the latter does not yet support user-created tournaments), but in the above video, Hyrb mentions that Xbox “will continue to bring new publishers and more great games to the Arena platform.”
Other future updates will include “support for team creation in Xbox, tournament creation for your Xbox console,” and more features involving game clips and Beam broadcasting, so players can watch other players in their tournament battle it out.
This update rolls out several updates to existing Xbox Live programs, as Xbox continues to push the social aspects of its online gaming platform. The Looking for Group function sees some improved functionality on the Xbox dashboard, and a Beam tab added to your Clubs dashboard will now show you whenever someone in your Club is broadcasting through Xbox’s new streaming service.
