Nintendo Switch

Even though Nintendo is slowly phasing Miis out of its consoles and apps, it’s now possible to customize your Mii avatars online.

While Mii avatars were used as a major feature of the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS, their use on the Nintendo Switch has been toned down drastically—now, the avatars are only good to set up a custom profile picture, and that’s about it. Nintendo’s Mii-based app, Miitomo, also shut down recently. However, it seems Nintendo isn’t done with the tiny cartoon creations.

The new online Mii creation tool lets players create and edit Mii characters for their Nintendo accounts through any web browser. The site is live now, though it seems to be experiencing some errors at the moment.

It’s not clear what plans Nintendo has for this new Mii creator. Perhaps they can be used simply to easily create more Miis for the Nintendo Switch, or perhaps Nintendo has more future plans for its avatar system that we haven’t heard of yet. Mii Fighters appeared in the Wii U and 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros., so it’s possible they may return for the upcoming Smash Bros. game Nintendo plans to unveil at E3.

We don’t have much to go on now, but with E3 2018 right around the corner, we’re bound to find out more soon. Stay tuned for future updates, and in the meantime, have fun playing around with the Mii creator tool.
