Nerf is giving us the chance to become our favorite Overwatch heroes with a new line of Overwatch-themed blasters.
Blizzard announced the partnership with Nerf on the official Overwatch Twitter account. The teaser video accompanying the announcement doesn’t show off any of the new guns, but we’re excited to start shooting our friends all the same.
A new way to play.

The Overwatch weapons will come from Nerf’s Rival line, known for being the higher-end, “precision battling” line of weapons. We don’t yet know the weapons’ release dates, only that they’re “coming soon”—reportedly sometime next year.
As for what specifically we can expect, some ideas are obvious, like Solider: 76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle and Hanzo’s Storm Bow, but the weaponry of most other heroes are harder to imagine. For example, what would Zenyatta’s Nerf weapon be? Just throwing squishy balls around? Considering that several of the heroes—Symmetra, Lucio, Zarya, etc.—shoot energy instead of projectiles, we have to assume not every weapon in the game will make the Nerf cut.
In other Overwatch news, the game’s second Anniversary event is coming up next week, bringing with it the return of old seasonal brawl modes, new and old seasonal skins, a new Deathmatch map, and more. While not yet confirmed, next week will hopefully also see the drop of a recently detailed Hanzo nerf (the other kind of nerf), so as to bring the buffed hero back down to a reasonable level.
