Microsoft has announced that Zoo Tycoon Friends, a free-to-play entry in the franchise, is coming to Windows 8 PCs, tablets, and Windows Phone this summer.
The game is being developed by Canadian studio Behaviour Interactive (Naughty Bear, Doritos Crash Course) and will let players manage their own zoo. Zoo Tycoon Friends includes over 40 unique species for players to adopt and care for, and gives players the chance to plan their zoo, with players able to construct habitats for animals, concession stands, roads, and more.
There were no details offered on in-app purchases, but it appears that there will be some sort of time gating system to encourage players to pay to speed up progress. Players also have the option of visiting other players’ zoos to help care for their animals.
Progress will also be synchronized across all platforms, and there’s support for Xbox Live Achievements and leaderboards.
