Four Video Interviews Looking At The Technology Behind Building Games
Posted on June 13, 2012 AT 03:31pm

Making games isn’t easy. As much as I’d like to believe that all it takes is dreaming up an interesting character and plot, coming up with some level designs, and waving a magic wand to bring the rest of the elements to life, that isn’t quite how it works. Game creation involves programming, game engines, middleware solutions, technology packages, and a bunch of other concepts that—to be honest—make my eyes glaze over.
Someone who does know a little more than I do about all of this is BigWorld Technology, a company who produces middleware development tools which help in the building of projects such as MMOs and Virtual Worlds. BigWorld’s technology has been used in a wide variety of products, including Wargaming.net releases like World of Tanks and World of Warplanes.
At E3, the folks at BigWorld did a handful of on-camera interviews about the roles technology plays in bringing games to life in conjunctions with their middleware solutions. As we—as gamers—are so often more concerned with the artistic and creative side of game creation, it’s nice to sometimes get a peek at a facet of development that doesn’t always get the glory.
