The Rundown
Everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed youths are ready for yet another epic adventure. A fantasy game of theirs has gone out of control, and lines have been drawn in the sand as Stan and Kyle must take down Cartman and his dark wizardry. But another playground playmate will step in with an unfathomable power that will force these enemies to join forces…all in the quest to become “kewl.” Only with the help of the new kid (the player) and his own awesome abilities can the boys hope to overcome this new menace. And for some reason, Kenny’s dressed like a princess.
The Verdict
The Stick of Truth maintains the charm and combat of those old-school SNES RPG classics that turned many of us on to the genre in the first place, but the biggest attraction for a game like this is always the story—and I’m hopeful this is the South Park game that fans of the show have always deserved.
The dialogue is spot-on; as a fan of Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s classic comedy series, I was giddy as the little details sucked me into the experience more and more. I also cracked up at the revealed special power of the New Kid: He can fart on command. From this maneuver, he can perform area-of-effect attacks or cup the methane blast in his hand and toss it like a projectile that knocks individual enemies out. And when his power bested Cartman’s farts of fire, I was absolutely sold. The Stick of Truth should be a must-have title for both RPG and South Park fans when it hits this holiday season. And if it happens to miss its ship date? Just blame Canada!
