The Rundown

The supremely popular free-to-play tank-on-tank warfare game is moving to consoles for the first time. Featuring all the add-ons, tank variants, customization, and game modes you’ve come to expect from World of Tanks, the Xbox 360 version will offer Xbox Live Silver members a free week to try the game out before deciding to upgrade to Gold or simply shift over to PC to play it further.

The Verdict

If the idea of sitting behind your keyboard and mouse is just too much for you to bare when it comes to playing games, then I can tell you that playing World of Tanks with an Xbox 360 controller may be the best way to get on board with the addictive, action-packed phenomenon that this title has become.

I was able to go hands-on briefly and play a standard live match, and my years playing first-person shooters quickly bore fruit: I decimated the first tank that came into my sights, zooming in as much as I could and firing several shells before the opponent knew what hit them. I then flanked the center of the map where the other players were blasting away at each other and made a beeline then for the flag objective, allowing my team roll into an easy win.

The tanks were easy to handle, and anyone who is used to playing shooters of any kind should be able to adapt quickly to the highly intuitive controls. Fans of multiplayer shooters should also feel right at home with the game’s different modes and ability to customize and upgrade your respective tanks as you continue to battle.

The only real knock I had with World of Tanks coming to the Xbox 360 is how, right now, there are no plans to have this version somehow connect with the massive PC crowd already playing the game. But otherwise, I had a tremendously fun time with it.
