Metal Gear Survive, Konami’s upcoming spin-off of Metal Gear Solid V, still has a good deal of mystery surrounding it when it comes to gameplay. While connected to the Metal Gear Solid universe, the alternate-dimension setting and survival-style gameplay will likely set it far apart from the rest of the franchise. Thankfully, EGM had a chance to play a hefty portion of the single-player campaign, as well as a round of the multiplayer mode, seen in the video below.
My associate Michael Goroff joined me to discuss the current build of the game, which I experienced on PlayStation 4, the possible ties to the Metal Gear Solid series, and how the game feels when playing. Throughout the video, different features for the survival game—including item crafting, food scavenging, field combat, and side missions—are shown off.
Players intrigued to get a chance to play the game themselves can try out the open beta that runs from January 18th through the 21st for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Only co-op will be available, so players wanting to go it alone in the wilderness filled with zombie-like creatures will have to wait for the official release of the game next month. However, fans that do jump in will nab early access items that can be carried over into their full game, like the “FOX HOUND” nameplate, bandana accessory, and more.
Metal Gear Survive is set to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in the Americas on February 20th, with a global release on February 22nd.
