THE BUZZ: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim ended up the big winner at the 2011 Spike TV Video Game Awards, taking home Game of the Year as well as Best RPG.

Other titles that found some love were Batman: Arkham City with Best Xbox 360 Game, Best Action/Adventure Game and The Joker as the viewer voted Best Character. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword took best Wii Game (Ed: Wait. There were other Wii games?) as well as Best Motion Game. Bastion, a critical darling, won for Best Downloadable Game, Best Song and Best Score.

A few games were surprisingly snubbed, taking home no awards at all, despite garnering multiple nominations, including: Battlefield 3, Gears of War 3, Dark Souls and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The complete list of categories and winners follows:

EGM’s TAKE: It was a fantastic year for games, so it’s just an honor to be nominated. Actually no. This is video games, which is all about competition. Congrats to all of the winners, and the losers can stop by the offices at their leisure for some good old fashioned taunting and trash talk! We’re looking at you Kirby’s Return to Dreamland!

Marc Camron, Senior Editor
Marc Camronhas a new obsession: Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. It has sucked me in like few games have before (the original Final Fantasy Tactics comes to mind). I must acquire all of the familiars, craft every item and win every arena battle! I'm looking for a 12 step program, but I'm having difficulty finding one that will accept me. If you can help please e-mail.
